Why is it that people toss on about Mark 'betraying his friends' etc etc.

The guy is an undercover cop. Infiltrating lefty (it appears he didnt do righty groups)organizations was his JOB. He did what he did because it was his job. The whole thing about him doing ther dirty on his 'mates' is just a crock.

Ive never met the bloke, but the amount of rubbish there is written about him on the net is not only so slanted to the left itll fall over in a slight breeze, so repetitous that you can smell the cut and paste on the screen and almost nauseating comments about how people felt sooooo "betrayed" and are "very upset" (ok, the "" are mine).

Surely 'activists' arent as silly as they appear and must know the police will have assets infiltrating various groups. So whats the issue? He was doing his jo, and it seems that he did it rather well. Not only in the length he was deployed undercover, but the real fact that he was very very good at his job.

I met Mark several times and did enjoy his company. I hope I won't be the only one who chooses not to judge a man...who knows whether it was an easy betrayal, or if this is a man who now suffers, and is struggling with complex allegiances.
I can say that having been contacted by several newspapers, that their attempt to avoid real issues and to cheapen and debase, is very disappointing.

Hi Dave,
We had no intention of censoring your view. We just hadn't got round to it. We receive so much spam mail that it can take a little time to process.

We respect your comment and we have no intention on passing any views or judgements on Mark's activities. I think your comments are just the tip of the iceberg where financial waste, civil liberties and ethics is concerned or as far as it is state sponsored.

We are not in support of Mark. We are as surpised as others who met him must be. He came across as a straight forward and nice chap on the face of it. You just never know who you might be dealing with.

I notice you didn't allow my earlier comment about this story to be shown, nor did you reply. Although you claim he was a "nice bloke", his conduct shows otherwise. See http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/jan/11/activist-undercover-officer-violated-relationship

Why are you supporting someone who behaves like that?

Er....he might have come across as a "nice bloke" to you, but has he not betrayed his friends, sabotaged anti-climate change campaigns, and wasted thousands of public money? Not my kind of "nice bloke" I'm afraid.
